In the mean time it appears that we no longer have a little boy living with us. We have a PARROT!! And a copy cat. And a "pointer-outer" of EVERYTHING! It's cute, amazing, hilarious, and challenging all rolled into one.I supposed one of the most noticeable components of this new stage is how he's added "in, on, the, my, you, and I" to his vocabulary---which, doesn't sound like much but truly enables him to form little sentences! Here's a little glimpse:
"Throw the ball."
"Read the book."
"Where'd the ipad go?"
"Play Ipad game."
"It's been rainin'." (No g on the end---so cute)
"It's cold outside."
"What happened?" Or, "Uh oh, what happened?"
"Make a ball" (when we play with play-doh)
"Build a tower." (when we play with blocks) and "Put on top."
"Monkey bars, next one."
"Fix it."
"Cut it up." (food, etc.)
"Sit in Mommy's lap."
"Timmy take a bath."
"It's heavy!" (when he tries picking up something that's too heavy)
"Sailboat on the water."
"Plane take off."
"Plane goes high."
"Get in the car."
"This is my blanket!"
"I did it. Yay!"
"Mommy, hug"
"It's purple! It's blue! It's yellow!" when seeing various things
"Watch, show."
"TV, on. TV, off."
"Where'd the tractor go?"
"No, that one." or "No, this one." (If he's picking something out...............more on that later).
"Play, the truck." (or train, or whatever toy he's interacting with.) (working on adding "with")
"Timmy's medicine."
"Where are you?"
"Go see MeMomMom." (his new name for my mom)
"Go to doctor."
"Ice Cream Cone."
"Pee pee on the potty."
"I got poopies! New diaper!"
"Lily on the bed." (our cat)
"Daddy's home!!!" (followed by running to the door for a hug)
"It's wet!" (When he sees a puddle outside on the ground.)
And last but not least: "Dammit." (Thanks to him observing a lady in the airport who dropped her purse in the bathroom, causing all her contents to spill out.) Now whenever he is leaning over or whenever he drops something, he says "Dammit." We are trying to break him of this!!! Kids have the most amazing memories though. It's hard to unteach something!
Communicating Feelings
Another cool thing is watch Timmy learn how to communicate his feelings. Whenever I've been gone and I get home, he greets me with "Mommy's home!!! I'm HAPPPPPYYY!" (melt my heart.) When someone gets a boo boo he'll say "Boo boo, hurt. or Daddy, hurt!" If I lie my head down on the couch (usually it only lasts 2 seconds before I'm needed for something), he'll say "Mommy's tired." (He also loves pointing out how "tired" everyone is in all his going to bed, night night-themed books. Too bad he doesn't take the hint himself and get tired once in a while!)
Funny things:
He hates bandaids!!! I had one on my ankle the other day and he kept saying "bandaid, off! bandaid, off!" Then Daddy happened to be wearing a bandaid on his finger a few weeks later and it was the same reaction. We've got car-themed bandaids in the cabinet waiting for whenever he needs one, but somehow I have a feeling they aren't going to help.
If we're on the couch he'll dole out kisses saying, Kiss-Mommy, Kiss--Daddy, then he'll put his wrist to his lips and say Kiss--Timmy! and laugh at himself afterwards.
For Gasparilla, we were telling him he was going to be a pirate for the day just like Daddy. He said "Daddy, pirate too?"
Also, it cracked us up when we got to the Yacht Club and he finally had the chance to see all the pirates....he started looking and asking for SANTA!! We realized we hadn't brought him to the club since the visit with Santa day, due to being out of town so much. So that was his last memory of being there! (Not to mention he was obsessed with Santa during all of December.)
In the airport when he saw the "tram" coming, he says...."It's Thomas!! Wooo, wooo!!!" and pulls his arm down for the train sound. (Let's just say everyone around us couldn't help but chuckle.) Thomas the train is a big deal in our house. :)
Mr. Independent:
Definitely hitting that 2 year old stage where he wants to do everything on his own (put on his socks, put on his shirt, pour himself a cup of water, etc.) When you try to help assist with something he'll say "No!! Timmy do it!!" And given that we've been in Gasparilla mode, how dare someone take off "Timmy's beads" when it's time to leave the house. It definitely leads to things taking longer or sometimes becoming more messy. Trying to embrace it, look for "teachable moments," and otherwise learn how to just be patient.
Other learning:
He is really aware of things that are big vs things that are little. And he loves to point out the difference (on all sorts of random objects.) I'm need to switch up my same old response "Yes, you're right. That is big. Or that is little." He is expanding his alphabet-learning. Where as before he used to just say E,FG now he is saying LMNOP and TUV. Maybe one day he'll come to love the starting point A,B,C? He has added purple, orange, and pink to the primary colors he was labeling before. He loves to announce what colors things are and says it with such enthusiasm each time as if the discovery is brand new. (So cute.) His favorite shape to point out is an oval, followed by star, and then circle.(I guess squares and rectangles are boring?)
Cute things:
I'll catch him humming or singing. His new favorite song is "Mr. Sun (Mr. Golden Son)" and he does his arms above his head and bounces them back and forth. He also likes to hum Twinkle Twinkle and then on the "what you are" and the "up above" (the world so high) parts, he chimes in with the real words.
He loves sneaking upstairs to play on his own for some quiet time. Sometimes I'll go up there to check on him and he's rocking quietly in his rocking chair like a little old man. (I laugh every time.)
Imitations:
Timmy loves to sit on the piano bench like Daddy lately. He'll run his fingers all the way up and down the keys and actually play a decent little tune. He doesn't just bang in one place. We can't wait to know a few more years down the road whether he has Daddy's musical talent or not. Our plan is to encourage it but not push it if he has other interests. So far, he seems to love it though! He also is quite good at the drums. (Oh Lordy...)
He also loves to imitate us when we brush our teeth, comb our hair. And sometimes he'll get his Winne the Pooh out and wipe him with a tissue/ try to put a diaper on him.
Favorite toys/activities:
He absolutely loves his chalkboard easel that he got for Christmas! He scribbles on it all the time and then whenever we do it together, I'll draw a picture of something he knows (a house, cat, dog, etc.) and he just thinks it's the neatest thing. He says the word of whatever I draw and asks me to do it again. He also requests that I draw his friend Parker, and after I draw her curls, face, and a bow on her head he leans in to give her a kiss! hah! Other favorite toys/past-times continue to be his train set, cars, play doh, and blocks. He also really loves his bike and frequently requests to go for a walk outside on it. His Little Tikes truck and power wheels motorcycle are both new favorites too. As Daddy says "The kid has so many vehicles." (Oops!! )

Favorite food:
By far "taco meat"!! Seriously, he's half Mexican. He could eat it every day and sometimes if he refuses other offerings, he does.
Potty training has started back up, now that the busyness of the holidays are behind us and we have more time to work on it.He is successful now and then with Number 1 on the potty but seems scared to try number 2 there. He'll tell us "new diap" after he goes number 2 though. He absolutely hates walking around in it! At least the communication is there and maybe before long we'll get over his hesitation for number 2 on the potty.
Birthday--- Can't believe it's almost birthday time!! For turning 2, we are celebrating with a construction/truck theme party. Looking forward to all his little buddies playing on the playground. Fingers crossed for good weather!
